Chaplain Larry Cooper

Larry Cooper joined the staff of Evangel Temple in May 2016 after retiring from Cox South after 30 years serving as a Hospital/Medical Flight Chaplain. He ministered to and endeared himself to the patients, families and staff at the hospital. He now serves as the Chaplain Coordinator, working with chaplain candidates from AGTS and provides oversight to the hospitality ministries—ushers, greeters and the resource center.

Larry is a native Springfieldian. After graduation from high school, he attended the College of the Ozarks and majored in Biology. He continued his education at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) earning a Master of Divinity (1980) and a Doctor of Ministry (2004). He has also completed two years of Clinical Pastoral Education and is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains.

Larry met his wife, Jan, at the College of the Ozarks. Upon graduation he became the Chi Alpha pastor at C of O. He also served as associate/youth pastor at First Assembly of God in Steelville, Missouri and as senior pastor at New Life Assembly of God in Albion, Nebraska.

Larry and Jan have a set of twins, Joshua and Rebecca, and five grandchildren. Larry enjoys bicycling, hiking, the outdoors (especially turkey and deer hunting), lawn care and attracting birds to their property.

Larry enjoys mentoring others in chaplaincy, remains calm in trauma settings, strives for excellence and walks with others during trying times.
