The Gospel

The reality of our existence is that all of mankind has rebelled against God, the Creator. Because of the fall of mankind, all people are now living as enemies of the true King by both nature and personal choice. But, the Gospel speaks to this reality in an important way.

The Gospel is the very center of our faith. The word "Gospel" literally means "Good News" and that is exactly what this message is. It is the Good News of God's grace invading the darkness and brokenness of this world. The Gospel is specifically the message of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, was raised from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of God the Father.

The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are the heart of the Gospel. Jesus Christ died as a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice to God for the sins of people like us. His death satisfies the demands of God's holy justice and appeases His holy wrath. It also demonstrates God's amazing love and His incredible grace. Jesus is the only Mediator between God and man. There is no other person and no other method that can save. Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind. The way to peace with God is through placing faith in Christ and His grace alone.

Christ, having been offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. - Hebrews 9:28

Basic Beliefs

We believe:

  • the Scriptures are inspired by God. - The 66 Books of the Bible are true, authoritative and fully sufficient in all matters of faith and belief.

  • there is only one true God. - He is the Creator of heaven and earth and all things exist to glorify Him.

  • this one God exists in three distinct Persons (The Trinity). - This One Being of God exists as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit .

  • the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the second Person of the Trinity. - Jesus was born by the virgin Mary and is fully God and fully man. He is as unique having lived a perfect life without sin.

  • all of humanity (except Christ) is sinful both by birth and by personal actions. – This makes each person a rebel against God, dead in their trespasses, and incapable of saving themselves from God's wrath.

  • the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was a real historical event with a spiritual significance. - At a real point in time, Jesus truly died upon a cross. This event is not a myth or a legend, but is a historical fact. His death was not the punishment for His own sins or the result of mere tragedy. Jesus intentionally died for the sins of His people as the perfect substitute for them.

  • the resurrection of Jesus Christ occurred physically and truly. - The resurrection of Jesus is a real historical event. He was truly dead on Friday, buried in a borrowed tomb and He physically rose from the dead the following Sunday morning.

  • Jesus is alive today and is seated in heaven ruling and reigning over all things. - After His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven and is now sitting at the right hand of God the Father. All authority belongs to Jesus and He is the true Lord of Lords and King of Kings over all things and all people.

  • salvation is a free gift granted by faith alone in the person and work of Christ alone. - By repenting of sin and placing full trust in Christ alone, not relying on personal works or righteousness, God saves sinners from the wrath they deserve. His salvation is the removing of sin from His people and giving them the gift of the perfection of Jesus. He changes people from being rebels to being His adopted sons and daughters!

  • there will be a physical resurrection from the dead at the end of time. - Those who have placed their faith in Christ alone will be raised up to eternal life with God. Those who continue to reject God and have not turned from their sin will face eternal punishment under the wrath of God.

These key beliefs are the basics of the Christian faith. All Christians affirm and adhere to these beliefs.

Membership at Evangel Temple is contingent upon affirming these things.

Distinctive Beliefs of Evangel Temple

We believe:

  • the Lord Jesus instituted two Ordinances (also known as Sacraments) for His church.

    • The first ordinance is Water Baptism.  - After repenting of one's sins and receiving Christ's gift of salvation, the next step for a person is to publicly declare their faith and their commitment to the Lord Jesus by baptism by immersion into water.

    • The second ordinance is Communion (or the Lord's Supper). - Regularly, as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's suffering and death for our salvation, Christians are called to gather together and take these elements together to remember Christ's death for His people.

  • the church has a mission. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. We believe the church consists of the people who have accepted God's offer of redemption and enters into their role in the mission of proclaiming the Gospel.

  • believers today are given spiritual gifts by the Holy Spirit to serve Him and further the mission of the church. - The gifts that are recorded and talked about in the New Testament are still in operation today. Believers are told to eagerly seek these things and to use them in the submission to God and His written Word (the Bible) which is the ultimate authority over all aspects of our lives.
